Chief Pilot/ Director of Flight Operations

He began flying in 1991, while a student at LeTourneau University, in Longview, Texas.   Upon graduation, he began working at a local FBO as a mechanic before moving onto flight instruction and charter work and management.  Since that time, he has worked for another FBO in similar roles and two corporate flight departments.   

He has experience in many small aircraft from homebuilt aircraft to multi engine turboprops and jets.  Currently flying the Pilatus PC12 and Beechcraft Baron 58, he brings over 30 years of experience and more than 12,000 hours of flight time to NorthStar Aviation.  The majority of his flight experience has been in the Northeast region of the US, resulting in a familiarity with varied weather conditions and seasons.

He first soloed in gliders at the age of 14. In 1999, he started flying commercially and has had a wide ranging career that includes flight instructing, local charter, flying for an airline, and charter flying all over the Americas. He has flown everything from a tandem glider to 737’s, but most of his experience is in corporate jets and turboprops. He has served as chief pilot for two operations, and been a lead pilot for Lifeflight of Maine. He has more than twenty years of experience and 11,000 hours in many different types, including six different turboprops and four different jets.

He began flying taildraggers at 16, in 2014, with a local airport in Central Maine. Not long after, he moved to Augusta to enroll in University of Maine at Augusta Bachelor in Aviation Management degree program. Upon graduating, he worked as a flight instructor for Maine Instrument Flight, rising to Assistant Chief Flight Instructor, while also teaching senior level classes at the university. After a couple of years in instructing, Ben now looks to expand his experience and horizons, landing him at Northstar in 2022.
